Sapphire: A Modern Bar and Restaurant

With a name like Sapphire, Knoxville's uptown metropolitan bar already sparkles as a hidden gem in Knoxville's Old City. Sapphire is located right next to the ever-popular Downtown Grill & Brewery and is intimate and relaxed, so it's a great alternative if the atmosphere is just a bit too loud at the raucous Brewery.

The inside is gorgeously polished with hardwood floors and posh accents. Eccentric modern seats--white spheres that are scalloped to perfectly fit your body--outline the glass tables. High ceilings open up the room and are accented by the cool glow of blue lights. Enveloped by glass cases filled with twinkling trinkets and flamboyant statuettes, the booth seats against the wall are a cozy alternative to the glass tables. A huge abstract painting on the back wall gives the place a splash of color and an overall chic feel.

Once I opened up the menu, I was expecting a bit more of a selection. However, the drink list is extensive with uniquely-named cocktails and definitely appeals to a trendy crowd. Their signature Sapphire martini actually comes with a sapphire, so if you're in the mood to treat yourself, this might be a worth a splurge.

Even with only a few choices, the appetizers and entrees on the menu perfectly complement the endless choices of beverages. Don't be discouraged about the small selection though because Sapphire also has a sushi menu with plenty of variety. And if you're just looking for some sweets, Sapphire has some delectable desserts including chocolate truffles, Sapphire cobbler, and a sinfully delicious dark chocolate cake.

With the sophisticated urban feel of a modern New York bar, Sapphire is the perfect place to have a night out on the town with your girls. The usual crowd here is well-dressed and hip, so be sure to play up your outfit as well. The waitresses here generally wear all black, so you will definitely stand out with a colorful, vintage inspired look with bold hues.
